Although decorative art is a broad field, it is not associated with other types of art such as painting and sculpture. Decorative art deals with objects such as ceramics, glassware, basketry, jewelry, metalware, furniture, textiles, and clothing.

Decorative artists work in all industries, but the industries with the highest levels of employment include clay product and refractory manufacturing; museums, historical sites, and similar institutions; glass and glass precuts manufacturing, and store retailers.

With the right media arts degree, you could be well on your way to a successful career as a media art artist, animator, computer graphics professional, digital artist, special effects artist or computer robotics specialist. Media arts degrees are available through certificate, associate, and bachelor degree programs at more than 300 National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredited programs across the U.S. Media arts degrees are also on the menu at many 2-year and 4-year universities, at technical schools, and specialty schools.

Sound recording specialists work in the motion picture and sound recording industries. They are responsible for the production and distribution of motion pictures and sound recordings. Production workers help contract performers, create film or sound content, and provide technical postproduction services. Some recording specialists may also be self-employed. These individuals may run their own firms or consulting businesses as well.

Floral designers are responsible for cutting live or artificial flowers and other plants and arranging them into custom designs for individuals, businesses, or other types of customers. Floral designers work in flower shops, floral departments in grocery stores, and they also work for flower distributors. Floral designers may also be self-employed. These individuals may run gift shops or consulting businesses as well.
